Anna Walker CB, Chair

Anna Walker has been Chair since September 2016.  She brings a wealth of experience of healthcare, performance improvement and regulation. She is passionate about improving services for those who use them. She was CEO of the Healthcare Commission (the predecessor of the Care Quality Commission); Chair at Young Epilepsy; Chair at the Office of Rail and Road; a Non-Executive Director at Welsh Water; and a Deputy Chair of the consumer watchdog. Anna is currently a Non Executive Director at South London and the Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and a Member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Living locally in Balham, Anna and her family have all benefitted from excellent care at both St George’s and Queen Mary’s hospitals on many occasions.

Zeynep Meric-Smith

In Zeynep’s professional life she is a Partner of a Big 4 global consultancy firm and responsible for its Wealth & Asset Management sector. Zeynep lives in Tooting with her family, including her two children who were both born at St George's. She is passionate about improving the care experience in her local community and in awe of all of the staff and teams across St George's Hospitals. Zeynep became a Trustee in May 2013.

Mike Rappolt

Mike has 40 years of international management experience including 29 years as a management and IT consultant with PA Consulting Group, where he was a main Board Director for 12 years, chaired the Audit Committee, and from which he retired in 2001. He was a Governor of Contemporary Dance Trust (The Place) for 13 years setting up and chairing the Audit Committee and was also a non-Executive Director of a small quoted IT services company for 5 years.

 From January 2004 until January 2014 he chaired the Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust, a local charity based in the London Borough of Merton, which facilitates exciting and innovative performing arts based education projects for the local community focussing on children and young people those of secondary school age, those with special needs and those experiencing economic disadvantage. From 2004 until 2016 he was a Non-Executive Director of St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and chaired the Audit Committee. In 2017 he was appointed a Conservator of Wimbledon and Putney Commons, a local charity, by the Ministry of Defence. He is also a committee member of his local residents’ association.

Katie Mantell

Katie has more than 20 years’ experience of charity communications and marketing, with particular expertise in digital communications and integrated communications strategies. Katie is currently Director of Communications and Engagement at UCLPartners, a social enterprise that harnesses research and innovation for better patient care and healthier communities. Her previous experience includes more than a decade at The King's Fund health thinktank and communications roles at charities focused on scientific research and social issues. Katie has a strong personal connection with St George’s, having received care at the hospital, along with other family members, during eight years living in Tooting and Streatham.

Paul Sarfaty

Married with two grown-up daughters, Paul was educated at Emanuel School and has lived in South West London for most of his life.  Following a finance career of more than 30 years with a US multi-national company both in the UK and abroad, he now undertakes project consultancy, mentoring and coaching. He served as Lay Member for Audit and Governance at NHS Sutton CCG and as Chair of Sutton and Merton CCG’s Charitable Funds between 2012 and 2019. Paul was appointed a Trustee as of September 2017.

Schellion Horn

Schellion is a professional economist and has over 20 years’ experience advising the healthcare sector. She is a Partner in in Alvarez and Marsal’s Economic Consulting practice and brings an understanding of the NHS from previous employment as Director for NHSI’s National Urgent and Emergency Care Programme and COO for Healthy London Partnership. Schellion has lived locally in Balham for 15 years and both her children were born at St George's Hospital. Her daughter continues to receive treatment at St George’s Hospital and so she experiences first hand the work of the hospital and the difference that St George’s Hospital Charity can make to patient care and experience.

Tim Wright

Tim joined the Department for Education as Chief Information Officer in 2007, a position he held for almost six years. He also worked across government, with local authorities, the Cabinet Office and the Government Digital Service. Prior to joining government, Tim worked for 20 years in the oil and gas industry in IT consulting and senior IT leadership roles. Tim is a Non Executive Director of St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  He is also a Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.

Sarah Wilton

Sarah joined the board as a trustee in April 2020, and was appointed honorary treasurer of the charity in May 2020 on the retirement of Anthony Chambers. 

 From 2011 until January 2020 Sarah was a non-executive director of St George’s Hospitals University Trust, most recently as chair of the Trust’s Audit Committee. Previously Sarah had been a non-executive director of NHS Wandsworth (formerly Wandsworth PCT) where she chaired the Finance & Resources Committee.

Following qualification as a chartered accountant, Sarah’s professional career focussed on corporate finance, change management and financial services: she is currently non-executive chair of the board of two companies in the Lloyd’s insurance market.

Within the community, Sarah was chair of governors of a Putney primary school for five years, and has been a longstanding trustee of Paul’s Cancer Support Centre, in Battersea. She sits as a magistrate in the adult and family courts.

Sarah and her family have lived in Putney for over thirty years and have benefitted in many ways over that time from the excellent care and expertise provided at both Queen Mary’s and St George’s Hospitals.

Renuka Jeyarajah-Dent OBE

Renuka is a chartered (educational) psychologist who has extensive experience of direct delivery in health, education, social care, and the voluntary sector. Until recently she was Deputy CEO and Director of Operations at Coram, the country’s first children’s charity, where her portfolio of management included safeguarding; ethics; research and consultancy; clinical and family support services as well as several projects with design as a focus - often through co-production with a range of beneficiaries. Renuka has also provided consultancy at international level and authored several high-profile Serious Case Reviews. Board level experience has been gained through a variety of roles including with ACEVO, Camden Children’s Trust and European research advisory forums and adds to Renuka’s ability to now focus on projects designed to innovate.

Renuka has worked with our hospitals as a member of multi-disciplinary teams and benefits directly from the Trust as she and her family have been resident in Wandsworth for many years.

Georgina Greenspan

George is the Managing Director of Eat The Fox, the consumer-brand of Harvard, a tech specialist agency She is passionate about the role of communications and marketing in enabling brands to make their move in a world increasingly powered by technology. George has over 15 years’ experience in communications, helping disruptive brands launch into the UK market and  global brands to help them define their strategy and create campaigns with impact. George has lived in Tooting for over a decade, and visited St George’s on a number of occasions, for both herself and her family.
