Get ready to Abseil for George’s in 2024!
Become a part of Team George's and embark on an unforgettable journey filled with thrills, scenic views, and a chance to make a meaningful difference for your local hospital.
Brace yourself for a 13-floor descent from the Pelican Hotel, located on the Perimeter Road of St George's Hospital.
As you descend, catch glimpses of the famous helipad, the sights of Tooting Broadway, and views of southwest London from a truly unique perspective.

- Participants can be aged 11 with parents’ consent for anyone aged 16 and under.
- No previous skills or experience are required as you will be supported on the day by our Abseil company- UK Bungee Club.
- All participants will need to be in good health and please note that to access the Abseil Platform you will be required to climb a short ladder. Unfortunately, there is no alternative route available to use, we are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

- When and where is the Abseil?

- Who can take part?
- Participants can be aged 11 with parents’ consent for anyone aged 16 and under.

- How long does it take?
You will need to turn up 30 minutes before your abseil time slot to register, get kitted up and have some training. The abseil itself will take place at your allotted time. All of this will take a maximum 1 hour 30 minutes.
- What time can I do the Abseil?
Registration on the day will begin at 9.30am. The first abseil will take place at 10am and the last at 3:30pm. You can ask for a specific time when registering to take part.
- What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing for the abseil such as trousers, a cost and sensible shoes. Please be aware that there may be some time waiting once on the roof of the hotel, so please dress accordingly for the weather. Long hair will need to be tied back and jewellery removed. You will be provided with the correct equipment for your abseil which will include a harness, helmet and inner and outer gloves.
- Do I need to prepare?
You will be trained on the day by our partners at UK Bungee Club.
- I have a physical disability; can I abseil?
Let us know the nature of your disability in advance and we can discuss this with the instructors. If you need assistance on the day, please let us know when you complete your entry form so we can make the necessary arrangements.
- Can people come to watch me?
Yes, there will be a small viewing area for friends and family to join you during your allotted time slot, but we ask they depart by the end of the hour to allow for the next set of participants. They will be able to view from the ground but will be unable to join you during training or at the top.
- Can I abseil with a friend?
Yes! Let us know and we can do our best to get you in the same timeslot.
- Do I need to get insurance?
You are covered with Personal Injury Insurance by UK Bungee Club.
- Does the registration fee count towards my target?
Your registration fee contributes towards the cost of your place and is not included as part of your fundraising target.
- How do I set up my JustGiving page?
Log on to www.justgiving.com. In the ‘find a charity box’ enter ‘St George’s Hospital Charity’ click enter. Select the charity and click on ‘Make Your Page’. Create an account by entering information requested. If you are already a member of Justgiving you can sign in using your own username and password. When creating your page you can select 'Doing your own thing' and enter information about the abseil on the page itself or 'Taking part in an event' and create an event for your page. You can then edit your page and email to all of your friends.
- What happens if I am no longer able to take part?
If you are no longer able to take part in the event please get in contact with the events team on giving@stgeorges.nhs.uk and we can discuss what we can do to help.
- How do I sign up?
To sign up, select your chosen date above and fill out the registration form, a member of the fundraising team will then be in touch to confirm your place.
