Staff members of St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, incorporating Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, can apply to our grants programme. Although St George’s University of London (the Medical School) is a separate organisation, we will support Medical School projects which are run in conjunction with the Trust.

Applications can be made to the following funds:

Special Purpose Funds

The charity oversees in the region of 230 donor-gifted and community-fundraised funds, each with a declared intention to support a specific ward, department, area of research, service or group of patients. Each Special Purpose Fund has designated Fund Advisors who are staff members. Fund Advisors have delegated authority to review and authorise expenditure approvals and applications for funding.

Research Legacy Funds

The charity funds research. This is funded through the generosity of legacies which are designated for specific research areas. These research areas for 2019-20 are currently: Cancer, Gynaecological Cancer and Neurosciences Intensive Care. Applications are reviewed by the Charity’s Medical Advisory Group (MAG) which is composed of senior medical academics which advises and makes recommendations to the charity’s trustees who meet four times per year. Applications for research funding will be announced on the Trust’s intranet.

Appeals Funds

The charity has numerous appeals in progress for defined projects which are announced on our website here. Trust staff should contact the charity for an update on the progress of appeals.

Process:

Trustees meet four times per year to consider grant applications.

The next trustee meetings are 27 September 2019 and 22 November 2019.

Applications must be submitted no later than 3 weeks before the trustee meeting.

Decisions on applications will be communicated to the applicant within a week of the trustee meeting, either by phone or email.
