What we fund

We fund projects, big and small, that make a real difference to patients and staff.

We prioritise projects that: 

• Create tangible impact for staff, patients and families
• Advance research and innovation
• Promote health equity
• Improve the hospital environment, both indoors and outdoors
• Support the Charity's Arts Programme
• Support volunteering and / or help to reduce pressure on the Trust

We don't fund activities or resources that are statutory or mandatory, as these remain the responsibility of the NHS. Similarly, we don't cover day-to-day running costs of the hospitals or routine operational expenses.

How to apply

All staff at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including Queen Mary's Hospital, can apply for funding. Staff at City St George's, University of London can apply for research funding. 

If you want to apply for funding, you will first need to know: 

• Which fund you want to apply for money from - our available funds include Special Purpose Funds (SPFs) and a range of other funds
• If your chosen fund is an SPF, you will need to know who the Fund Advisers are for that SPF

If you don't know your Fund Advisers, or which SPF your department has access to, contact us at charity.grants@stgeorges.nhs.uk.

After that, you can complete the relevant application form to tell us about your idea:

You can also use our expenses portal to claim back incidental expenses from an SPF like travel and accommodation or for items that can't be purchased using SBS Oracle. Please note, we have strict criteria on usage and spend limits, and the expenditure must be approved in advance by one of the Fund Advisers.
