Better Everywhere

The Better Everywhere Appeal is a fundraising appeal to support St George’s Hospital in Tooting and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton as well as local community-based services in south west London.

Supporting the Better Everywhere Appeal means the most urgent needs of St George’s and Queen Mary’s hospitals are addressed quickly, helping any part of the hospitals to secure items that are ‘over and above’ what is normally provided.

That could be new medical equipment, facilities, research, support group funding for those living with chronic conditions, arts, musical therapies – just about anything that is ‘over and above’ the norm.

Here are just some examples of what we wish to support this year:-

The Young Onset Dementia Support Group meetings

These provide an opportunity for people with dementia and their supporters to talk about the challenges of living with dementia, share ideas and remain up to date on practical issues and scientific developments.

A service for those learning to live with Parkinson’s disease

A Parkinson’s patient described how going out in public can be difficult as the condition causes her to ‘freeze’ or stop moving. The techniques that the team at St George’s provide will build confidence through learning techniques to ensure that going out in public –something we take for granted – does not become a barrier to leaving the house.

There is so much that the charity and the hospitals can do for local people – going above and beyond normal provision can add so much to the quality of peoples’ lives.

Hospital charities have an important role to play in spotting those areas where the patient experience can be enhanced, where research can benefit patients, where new equipment can make life easier.

Donations are made to St George’s Hospital Charity, a major supporter of the work of the hospitals, and an independently run charity. The Better Everywhere Appeal also helps support the work of the charity itself to continue with its impactful role and our annual Impact Report shares what we have been able to achieve thanks to donations.
