Being in hospital can be a very difficult time for everyone, but it’s especially hard for children and young people.  That’s why we’ve launched our Toy Appeal to provide each baby, child and teenager staying at St George’s Hospital with a gift - whether it is for Christmas, a birthday or any other celebration, to make their stay away from home a little easier.

Not only can toys, activities, materials and equipment help them to express themselves and have some fun, they can also provide preparation and distraction techniques and multi-sensory experiences to help relieve any anxieties and misconceptions. They are also helpful in reliving boredom and benefit recovery, recuperation and rehabilitation.

St George’s Hospital plays a key role in the lives of young people - and with five children’s wards, the neonatal unit covering more than 100 beds, and treating around 34,000 children a year, it’s always an incredibly busy time.

The role of St George’s Hospital Charity is to make the experience of being in hospital that little bit better – and you can help.

We’ve created an Amazon wish list for gifts for children and young people staying in hospital on their Birthdays, over Christmas, or other religious celebrations.  It’s extremely easy to use - access our wish list here and then simply click on the toy or gift you’d like to purchase. From there it will be donated and delivered to the charity, ready to give children and young people on special occasions and the festive season.

If you wish to make a monetary donation this can be done by texting GEOR35 £5 to 70070.

Toys will also be used in our Dragon Centre which is the children’s outpatient department, to help keep children entertained whilst they're waiting to see a doctor, nurse or specialist. They'll be used by our Play Team to help ensure children and young people’s stay in hospital will be as fun and entertaining as it can be, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment and give extra comforts to the patients in our paediatric intensive care unit and inpatient wards.

  • Please do not wrap the gifts.
  • Unfortunately we are not able to accept second hand toys to use as gifts.  All toys must be brand new and unused.
  • We are also unable to accept violent toys such as guns and toy swords.
  • All high value toys such as iPads, PS4 games and other tech will be used for the ward/ play areas and not individual children to ensure children receive a gift of the same or similar value.
  • We will also be accepting donations of unused wrapping paper.
