The Melanoma Foundation

The Melanoma Foundation

The Melanoma Foundation supports teaching and research in the field of Melanoma and Skin Cancer.

The Melanoma team at St George’s Hospital deliver the best diagnosis and treatment for patients. Supporting this team helps to bring the latest equipment, teaching and research to benefit patients.

Research is vital in the field of Melanoma and Skin Cancer. It is a rare and serious type of cancer, beginning in the skin. The cancer then can spread to other parts of the body.

Alarmingly, the diagnosis of skin cancer is becoming more common. Skin Cancer rates have surged since the 1970s. It starts when cells develop abnormally. It is thought that UV rays from the sun and from sunbeds have a big part to play in this increase of patients.

The Melanoma Foundation fund helps the education of professionals and the public in this disease. There is a patient support group, a skin tumour tissue bank and research into the causes, prevention and management of melanoma.
