Ruth Myles Unit

The Ruth Myles Unit helps patients with blood disorders, specifically leukaemia, myeloma, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and blood clotting disorders such as haemophilia and also patients having bone marrow transplants. Many of our patients spend several weeks in hospital, and have to attend the hospital frequently, for others they have life –long conditions and have to come to the ward or the day unit every three to four weeks.

The charitable fund makes a huge difference to patient experience on the Ruth Myles Unit. It has been used to support staff training and purchase items beyond the NHS budget to ensure we always provide excellent clinical care and environment. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our generous supporters so far, who have helped purchase:

  • A new Apheresis machine which performs quicker, making blood treatments more comfortable for patients
  • An ultra sound machine has been purchased to help place intravenous cannulas so the procedure is less painful.
  •  Reclining chairs for the rooms and comfortable chairs for the day unit.
  • Televisions and WIFI access for all the rooms to provide entertainment and so patients can keep in touch with family and friends at no cost to them.

We still need support! We are currently looking to make improvements in the unit such as replace two treatment chairs and the patients’ tables for smaller ones to make patients more comfortable during treatment and give them more space in the unit.

If possible, we hope to raise enough money to go towards the cost of brand new equipment that would make a huge difference to the Unit, such as: a Bladder scan machine, an ECG machine and a Second Water bath for defrosting stem cells for transplantation.

If you would like to speak to our fundraising team directly about any of these donations please call 0208 725 4522.
