Job Summary

St George’s Hospital Charity supports this work, by:

  • Enhancing the physical environment of the hospital for patients, staff and visitors – refurbishment and building projects
  • Funding clinical research
  • Helping to fund state-of-the-art equipment
  • Supporting St George’s staff, through training and development

Main duties and responsibilities


  • Work with the Director of Fundraising and Marketing to develop/deliver comms strategies across the entire spectrum of disciplines including: media and public relations, digital and social media, marketing, internal comms, brand management, advertising, production of materials and celebrity management

Brand management

  • Develop key charity messages, and ensure consistent use of language and tone of voice across all communications, providing support to colleagues as necessary

Case studies and impact reporting

  • Write compelling and engaging web copy, press releases, and case studies and lead on copy-writing and production of marketing materials and key publications including the Annual Report and Accounts and the charity’s Annual Impact Report
  • Sourcing and writing engaging case studies from patients, staff and supporters showcasing the positive work of the charity

Website management

  • Work with the Director of Fundraising to refresh the website functionality and appearance
  • Regularly update the charity’s website with engaging new content

Analysis and reporting

  • Report on and analyse the effectiveness of marketing and communications
  • Responsible for maximising the charity’s media and PR profile and developing relationships with target media representatives, acting as a charity spokesperson when necessary

 Supporter base recruitment

  • Lead work to expand the donor and supporter base through increasing sign-ups to the charity’s social media and newsletter comms

Direct Marketing

  • Lead the creative composition on the charity’s developing direct marketing programme and ensure execution of the programme through suppliers and liaison with colleagues

Social media

  • Develop the social media strategy in support of the charity’s objectives

Legacy Marketing

  • Support the charity’s legacy fundraising by developing legacy communication targeted at will writers and solicitors, and personal finance/estate planning businesses

Design and print

  • Work with and brief design agencies for the production of materials

Internal advocacy and support for colleagues

  • Participate in cross-functional projects
  • Keep up to date on best practice within the charity sector generally and particularly changes to communications innovation, legislation and codes of practice
  • Support fundraising colleagues with coaching sessions on Comms and Marketing topics
  • Play an active part in the charity’s external events
  • Build positive working relationships across the charity, hospital trust, membership, university and external media to fully exploit the opportunities available to grow the charity’s profile and express the impact of the charity’s work

 Line Management Responsibility

  • None at present though it is expected that the successful candidate will recruit volunteer support and support from a fundraising assistant is provided.

 Budgetary Responsibility

  • Income – generating income from marketing activities.
  • Expenditure - for marketing materials, advertising, direct marketing initiatives, training and other elements of running a communications, PR and marketing function.
  • Prepare and monitor annual communications budgets

Patient engagement coordinator   – Saturdays, Wolfson Thomas Young

4 days per month with at least two being Saturdays @ £120 per day = £480 per month.  Self-Employed.

The Wolfson Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre offers a programme of Saturday activities for inpatients during their rehabilitation.  One day per month will be a weekday to liaise with the Therapies Multi-Disciplinary Team.  The 4 day per month role will be to identify and coordinate leisure activities which are linked to patients’ personal goals.  You will manage a budget and book facilitators to lead Saturday activities and encourage participants to take part. Saturday activities aim to bring together visiting relatives and carers with their loved-ones to enjoy social activities.
