Every month we highlight an artwork from our hospital art collection.

This month we have selected a charming winter themed artwork by artist Ivel Muller. The print shows a festive day out ice skating in New York’s Central Park with the Plaza Hotel in the background. The artist’s use of vibrant colour and joyful characters are reminiscent of children’s book illustration. Looking at the style of clothes perhaps this is an imagined scene from the early 20th Century. The composition of the scene, with a raised distant view and simplified figures, evokes the British painter L.S. Lowry.

Ivel Muller was born in Argentina. She studied at the University of Rosario in Argentina, The New School in New York and The Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, where she achieved a master’s degree in Public Art & Design.

She has managed several galleries in Argentina and New York, as well as assisting with the production of lithographs by the late Salvador Dali. She now lives and works in London as an artist.

We are delighted that this print hangs alongside three more artworks by Ivel Muller in our collection displayed outside the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
