“The incredible care that dad received during his time at St George’s Hospital deserves to be recognised!”

Bradley Gayler and his fiancé Laura have completed their 67-mile walk from Padstow to St Ive’s along the South West coastal path and have raised over £4,000 so far! The reason for their challenge was because they wanted to give back to St George's Hospital after Bradley’s dad, Daryl, suffered from a very serious stoke in 2019 and has been treated there ever since.

Bradley said: “From day one, from when dad had his life saving operation to when he left the hospital following his rehab and ongoing physio, the care he received was outstanding and it made us realise how incredibly inspiring this hospital is.”

Bradley and Laura love a physical challenge, in particular, walking, so this coastal route felt like the perfect challenge for them to take on whilst raising money to give back to the Thomas Young Acute Stroke Unit.

The walk itself represented around 11 miles for every month that Daryl was in St George’s either in intensive care, the stroke unit, rehabilitation and physio. Daryl joined Bradley and Laura for the final 100 metres and what a celebration it was! Bradley said they both found the challenge “difficult, especially the last day with the terrain and the hills involved along the coastline, but we received great support, and family met us along the way which really helped.”

Bradley and Laura have raised over £4,000 so far and smashed through their original target of £2K! You can still support and congratulate them by donating here!

They want to say a “HUGE thank you to everyone that supported, because of you more people like dad can continue to benefit from the miracle work that St George’s do!”
