The Charity was delighted to fund a new paediatric procedure room in the Lanesborough Wing theatres at St George’s Hospital. This investment is likely to improve the treatment journey for our younger oncology patients and increase the capacity of the emergency paediatric theatre.

Thanks to our grant of over £38,000 the team at St George’s was able to repurpose and redevelop the existing paediatric anaesthesia room into a new paediatric procedure room.

Having a new procedure room means that staff will be able to use the space in a better way, helping to provide the world-class, outstanding paediatric care that St George’s Hospital is known for.

The new room can accommodate oncology diagnostic procedures, treatments and insertion of lines. It will also be used for non-oncology minor paediatric procedures, improving the availability of the emergency theatre for more complex oncology cases.

Joanne Woodman, Capital Projects Assistant Director, at St George’s Hospital, said:

“With funds from the Charity we were able to work with the Theatres and Anaesthesia directorate to transform space in our hospital to improve efficiency and theatre capacity.

“Not only can the space now be used more efficiently it will also help improve the experience of our younger patients at St George’s.”

Vivien Gunn, Head of Grants, at St George’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide funds to repurpose space in the hospital that better serves not only our staff but also provides a better experience for our paediatric patients.”

We’ll be revisiting the Paediatric Procedure Room in a few months to see how the new space has impacted patients and staff. Sign up to our newsletter to stay in the loop.
