The Charity provided funds for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Plastic Surgery, to complete a Finishing Touches Tattooing Course.

Jovita De Vera a CNS at St George’s Hospital completed the 3D Areola & Nipple micropigmentation 2-day training course earlier this year, of which the Charity provided 50% of the cost.

Nipple tattooing is usually the finishing touch to a breast reconstruction, a procedure breast cancer patients at St George’s may have following a mastectomy.

Previously a clinician would be used, and theatre space would be booked to perform the tattoo procedure. However, now Jovita is trained in the procedure, a separate infection-controlled room can be used which has resulted in not only clinician’s time being freed up but also freeing up capacity in the theatres.

We are delighted to hear that by enabling this grant, there are reduced waiting times between the completion of the breast reconstruction and the nipple tattoo procedure.

Jovita said: “I’m so grateful that you agreed to help fund the course, I’ve learnt a new skill and so far, the patients have been very happy with their outcomes.”

Rebecca Clay, Grants Officer, at St George’s Hospital Charity said: “I am delighted to hear of the benefits this training is having for both patients and the CNS that undertook the training.”
