Dave's Music Day: Community Coming Together
13 January 2026
Dave's fundraiser sparked joy, connection, and a powerful reminder of what can happen when people unite for a cause close to their hearts. From start to finish, Dave organised a day in his hometown of Portsmouth - filled with music, generosity, and heartfelt gratitude.
The event began at 3pm and carried on until 11:30pm, with the atmosphere growing warmer and more vibrant as the hours passed.
The evening featured five incredible acts, all of whom volunteered their time and talent. The line-up included Andy, a special artist who opened the show, followed by a remarkable 12‑year‑old rising star, an Irish folk singer, a rock band, and an ABBA tribute act with a special appearance from Dave himself. A local DJ closed the night, keeping the energy high and the crowd smiling.
When speaking with Dave, it was clear just how personal this fundraiser was for him.

Why St George’s Hospital Charity?
“After being diagnosed with urethral cancer in 2024, I underwent major surgery at St George’s Hospital. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life – not just because of the operation itself, but because of the people who carried me through it.
I was awake throughout the procedure, and the surgical team made sure I understood every step. They reassured me, involved me, and helped me stay calm. I even played an active part, letting them know if anything felt painful as they navigated past my nerves. Their care, professionalism, and humanity made an overwhelming situation feel manageable.
Now, eight months into recovery and cancer‑free, I wanted to give something back. Fundraising felt like the right way to honour the people who helped give me back my life.”
The Joy of Giving Back
Supporting both St George’s Hospital Charity and Marie Curie have been uplifting in more ways than one. Preparing the event brought Dave closer to his community – chatting with locals, working with venue staff, spreading the word, and feeling part of something bigger. It was social, therapeutic, and deeply meaningful.
Knowing that the money raised for St George's Hospital Charity will support the Urology Department where it’s needed most – whether through new equipment or training to enhance patient care – made every moment worthwhile.
A Heartfelt Thank You
The fundraiser was Dave’s way of expressing his gratitude:
- To Dr Ayres, who continues to check in every six months, and to the Urology team whose care gave him strength and hope.
- To the venue staff, who helped make the event possible.
- And to every performer, volunteer, and attendee who contributed to such a special evening.
In Dave’s words, “knowing that support is always there makes me feel strong, grateful, and wanting to give back”.
A huge thank you to Dave for organising his music event in support of both St George’s Hospital Charity and Marie Curie.
Go Team George's!
