Peter Kittle is taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon on the 3rd April to say thank you to PICU.

The London Landmarks Half Marathon is one of two challenges that Peter will be taking this year as he raises for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at St George’s Hospital after his daughter received lifesaving care in 2015.

Peter will have no time to rest after his 13.1 miles of sightseeing in central London as he is due to complete RideLondon’s most gruelling challenge only two months later as he takes on the 100 mile bike ride from the heart of London into neighbouring Essex

Peter explains why he’s taking on the challenges: “On the 20th of November in 2015 my twin daughters, Fluff and Dinks (aka Florence and Darcy) were born.

“As with any new-borns we had lots of visitors for the first couple of weeks and during this time Dinks caught a common cold which turned into Bronchiolitis. In the early hours of 6th December 2015, we had to take both twins to the out of hours doctor.

“The Doctor was not happy to just send us away because Dinks was only two weeks old and wanted her checked by a Paediatric Doctor and thank goodness they did as Dinks started to go blue so was placed on a ventilator in Accident and Emergency at Southend Hospital.

“Dinks was separated from her sister from that moment on for a week and was transferred to St George’s PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) where she was placed in a drug induced coma for five days and then transferred to a different ward a few days later.

“Whilst in the PICU with Dinks both my wife and I witnessed the awesome staff within the unit look after every child with superb care and compassion and dealt with parents with the same care and compassion.”
