Help support Cancer patients at St George’s this World Cancer Day
03 February 2022
Every week 15 people start therapy treatment for cancer at St George’s, we want to ensure that every patient that walks through our doors receives a Cancer Comfort Kit.
The Cancer Comfort Kit has been specially chosen to support patients through their cancer treatment at St George’s Hospital including Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Radiotherapy.
They are handed out to patients at their first visit with hope they will help to alleviate some of the initial pressures and worries that patients may face when starting their treatment.
The kits include hard candy, lip balm and hand cream as skin can become dehydrated, plastic cutlery to help with the metallic taste chemotherapy can leave, a mindfulness puzzle book, and a reusable water bottle.
Most importantly the kits include various local information materials on how to access support, such as the Macmillan Information Booklet, support group information and other charities that can help throughout the treatment journey.
Caitlin Harvey is the Macmillan Lead CNS for Personalised Care, working closely with all in cancer services to deliver national objectives of cancer care.
Estelle Le Galliot is the Health & wellbeing coordinator, developing and implementing information & support activities for our cancer patients and their loved ones.
What is World Cancer Day?
World Cancer Day is an international day where the world can united in the fight against cancer. Many charities and organisations choose to mark World Cancer Days in many different ways including launching prevention campaigns.
For World Cancer Day 2022 St George’s Hospital Charity and the Cancer Team at St George’s want you to help us support cancer patients at St George’s by donating just £7 to fund a Cancer Comfort Kit.
For every day of this week we want to fund 15 Cancer Comfort Kits, totalling 75 kits by the end of the day just 10% of what we need for the whole year!
Can we count on your support?
