It's one week until Christmas- why should you support St George's this Winter?

We asked Linda Smith, Matron of Acute/Specialist Medicine, a few questions about how your support can help St George's Trust.

How has the Coronavirus pandemic affected your work?

When Covid-19 hit St Georges, it was initially completely overwhelming but in true St George’s tradition we all pulled together to try and manage what was an ever evolving situation. Our nurses and doctors, porters and Mitie staff, as well as all our AHP’s showed immense resilience and flexibility under immense pressure. We were just starting to get back to "normal" when Covid-19 hit us again alongside another lockdown.

How will donations this Christmas will make a difference to you and your team?

The support of the local community and St George’s Hospital Charity has been phenomenal this year. The daily food parcels and care packages sent to the wards especially the Covid-19 wards where it was difficult for staff to leave, were well received. I think this Christmas will be exceptionally hard for our patients and staff, so it would be lovely if we were able to ensure all patients or staff get a little treat in hospital over Christmas and New Year.

What would you say to those thinking about supporting?
If you are thinking of supporting SGH then I would like to thank you on behalf of our patients and staff so much for your kindness and generosity at this time of year.

What would you say to those who donated?
For everyone that has donated, you are amazing and we are so grateful!
