Such Great Heights: Jumping out of a plane to raise money for St George’s Hospital Charity

4th February 2019

On Saturday 2 February, Greta Baksyte took part in the Tandem Skydive to raise funds for St George’s Hospital Charity, which supports St George’s Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital and community services across south west London.

After facing her own battle with a brain tumour, Greta decided to face her biggest fear – heights! Greta said “After braving all of my brain surgeries, I feel ready to face the Tandem Skydive. People’s lives are priceless. I spent over a month in the High Dependency Unit at St George’s Hospital, and I know what difference every pound can make for those who are as severely ill as I was. I want to take on this challenge to say thank you to St George's Hospital for saving my life.”

Greta amazingly overcame her fear of heights and completed the Tandem Skydive at the weekend, as well as raising vital funds for the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at St George’s Hospital.

After completing the jump, Greta said "If it wasn't for the charity, I would have never braved to do it. My message from this experience would be 'What doesnt kill you makes you stronger.' "

St George’s Hospital Charity aims to improve the patient experience for each individual within our Trust. We focus our efforts on funding medical equipment that is above and beyond what the NHS can provide, supporting high-quality medical research and helping to enable new development projects within the hospital.

Mari-Louise White, Community and Events Fundraising Manager for St George’s Hospital Charity, said: “A huge thank you to Greta for taking on this incredible challenge. It’s down to the generosity of our supporters that we are able to continue raising vital funds which will have a real impact on both patients and staff.”
