Ria’s family are holding a Charity Dance to continue to support family’s with a loved one in ICU

11th April 2019

On Sunday 14 April, Val, Pete and their family are holding a Charity Dance to raise money in memory of Ria. Ria was tragically killed on Boxing Day 2014 and is described by her friends and family as an amazing and caring individual who was just as caring in her death by donating her organs to benefit others.

During this very difficult time, Ria’s family and friends raised an incredible sum to transform the Neuro Intensive Care Relative’s Room, now named Ria’s Room, where they had to wait during the hardest moments of their lives. This room now has comfortable seating that can be used to sleep on if required, a kitchen area for making tea and coffee, plug points, a table with seating and a TV. This new room has benefitted so many other families who are going through a similar experience to what Ria’s family faced in 2014.

Ria’s family and friends have organised a charity dance on Sunday 14 April to raise further funds for St George’s Hospital Charity - and it has amazingly already sold out! They are hoping to raise an incredible £10,000 to create a similar Relative’s Room in another area of the hospital, benefitting more family and friends of patients.

Ria’s family have said: “We would like to continue to raise more money to help fund other rooms in hospitals local to us, in any area to be able to have a Ria's Room (R&R Rest and Recuperation). Our family thanks you for any support that you give us towards this project. ”

Mari-Louise White, Community and Events Fundraising Manager for St George’s Hospital Charity said: “A huge thank you to Val, Pete and family for everything they have done in transforming the Neuro Intensive Care Relative’s Room into the amazing Ria’s Room. We’re so grateful that they are wishing to transform more rooms across the hospital. It’s down to the generosity of our supporters that we are able to continue raising vital funds which will have a real impact on patients, their families and staff.”
