London Marathon 2019: Rob Oakley

25th April 2019

‘I have been touched by people’s personal stories. It makes me happy to see people progress and take on the world again!’

Rob Oakley will be taking part in the London Marathon 2019. Rob, a Resident Pharmacist at St George’s Hospital, will not only be taking on the challenge of running 26.2 miles, but will also be using the event to raise funds for the Wolfson Stroke and Rehabilitation Wards through St George’s Hospital Charity.

Rob is passionate about raising money to help fund the neuro-rehabilitation patient’s social activities which includes craft and games resources, community trips and transport costs. These activities are important to the care and rehabilitation of patients, and assist their rehabilitation journeys as they embrace their lives during and following treatment.

Rob said: “Working on the rehabilitation wards has exposed me to amazing people that had experienced a difficult life-changing event. I have seen how important empowering patients is to help them adapt their lives and set new goals. I am proud to support this process and wish to assist the charity in helping to put a smile on everyone’s face, every day. Anything people are able to contribute will help the fantastic teams working around the clock providing the best care and experience we can for our patients!”

Rob has been training since January for a rowing championship whilst slowly increasing his running, last month hitting 18 mile runs and more! He has been spreading the word of his fundraising throughout both St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital, and also been fundraising online; https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RobOakley

He had this message for the staff of St George’s Trust; ‘Keep up the fantastic work, never give up!’

If you would like to support Rob please visit his fundraising page, or respond to his message to supporters on the course on Sunday; ‘If you see any ice creams on route, tweet me @RobOakley99!’

Good luck Rob!
