St George's Hospital Charity celebrates NHS Big Tea

21st June 2019

Following the success of our NHS 70th celebrations last year, St George's Hospital Charity will be hosting a 'Midsummer Musical Afternoon Tea' as part of NHS Big Tea to mark the NHS’ 71st birthday this year.

The tea party will take place on Friday 21 June from 4:30 – 7:30pm in Atkinson Morley Wing Courtyard at St George’s Hospital. All staff, patients and members of the public are welcome to attend!

Along with plenty of tea, coffee, cakes and treats, there will also be live music from the Great Gustos Choir, as well as performances from other local musicians including Trevor Dunton and his band Longstone, Fuzion, the Graveney Saxophone Quartet and A Band Named Sue.

Our Midsummer Musical Afternoon Tea comes a week after St George's hosted the launch of NHS Big Tea's second annual national campaign to urge NHS staff, patients and members of the public to get together and raise a cuppa to celebrate the NHS while raising money for NHS Charities - such as St George's Hospital Charity.

TV’s Dr Ranj was joined by his Strictly Come Dancing co-star Charles Venn, some of his former St George’s emergency department colleagues, as well as Chief Executive Jacqueline Totterdell and Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together Ellie Orton, atop our helipad for a special tea party event to formally launch the NHS Big Tea this year.

Photos from the launch taken on our helipad – some of which are shown below – will be used across the media throughout the duration of the campaign nationally.

Amerjit Chohan, Chief Executive of St George's Hospital Charity said:

"On Friday 5 July, the NHS celebrates its birthday - and you can show your support by raising a cuppa to the NHS! It's a chance for everyone who loves the NHS to come together with friends, family and colleagues, and toast our fantastic health service while raising money for our incredible NHS charities. NHS charities give £1 million every day to support the NHS, playing an important role in funding major redevelopments, research and medical equipment."

"St George's Hospital Charity are proud to support St George's and Queen Mary's Hospitals and look forward to celebrating with you and raising a cuppa on 21 June for the NHS Big Tea."
