Celebrating our wonderful volunteers at #StGeorgesTrust

15th July 2019

We’re thrilled that St George’s Hospital Charity can help appreciate the amazing work of the Trust’s volunteers!

Alexandra Dennis, the Voluntary Services Manager at St George’s Hospital, applied for a charity grant last year with the aim of properly thanking the Trust’s volunteers for all their hard work. Once awarded this grant, Alexandra was able to arrange a ‘volunteer day out’ to St Albans, which included a self-guided tour of the historical town as well as treating the volunteers to lunch out at Café Rouge. With the remainder of the grant she organised a three course Christmas lunch to celebrate the festive season, which the volunteers thoroughly enjoyed.

Volunteers are essential to St George’s Trust. They perform vital work, such as directing visitors and patients around the hospital, providing trolley services to wards and clinics, and giving bedside performances of music and magic to entertain patients.

The first week of June also marked Volunteers’ Week across the Trust. Chief Executive Jacqueline Totterdell showed her recognition of their contributions, saying: “What would we do without our volunteers? Wherever I go around our organisation I often bump into them whether it be helping patients (and me) find where to go in our (not always easy to navigate) sites or organising sing songs for some of our older patients with dementia. Whatever they do is always with the best interests of our patients, our staff and our hospitals. And this week is a celebration of their kindness, dedication and overall dedication to supporting us at St George’s. They are superstars”.

With plans to expand Voluntary Services across the Trust in 2019/2020,it’s set to be another busy year for all those involved and we look forward to recognising the volunteers’ efforts again next year.
