Strictly Come Christmas brings festive cheer to the wards over Christmas!

6th January 2020

St George’s Hospital Charity are proud to support the arts programme at St George’s Trust which delivered wonderful pantomime performances in the wards over Christmas.

Our Arts Team organised for a micro-pantomime to go from ward to ward and perform mini-performances at the bedsides of patients and their families who were spending Christmas in hospital. The performances were designed specifically with patients and the hospital environment in mind. Actor and musician Lila Clements and musical director Tarek Merchant developed the script and music, and artist Alban Low created the illustrated props.

The ‘Strictly Come Christmas’ team adapted their acts to suit the needs of individual patients and even performed requests from patients, from Sweet Caroline to Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Jab Koi Baat Bigade Jaye.

We’ve had some lovely feedback from patients and staff who sang together and clapped along to their favourite songs, including:

“The performance stimulated conversations between patients - they talked about their experiences of music” - Amy Cowperthwaite, Arts Programme Assistant

“This is my favourite song!” - Patient, Cheselden ward

“We love it! It’s good for morale” - Member of staff

The arts programme is managed and funded by St George’s Hospital Charity. For further information please contact arts@stgeorges.nhs.uk.
