Bank Holiday Inspiration

22nd May 2020

Many of our fundraisers will be disappointed with the recent news that Ride London 2020 has been cancelled; however this hasn’t stopped our amazing fundraiser Alexander Irvine from cycling 100km to raise money to support the St George’s Coronavirus Appeal.

This bank holiday Monday, we hope Alexander’s story will inspire you to get involved in our ‘virtual Ride London’ whether you cycle 100km or just getting back on that bike that is gathering dust!

Alexander is just 7 years old and alongside doing his school work from Poplar Primary in Merton Park, he has been spending this past week clocking up the distance to reach 100KM on his bicycle. Not only has he been smashing his rides but he is also smashing the fundraising. Alexander has raised an incredible amount of money for St George’s so far and you can help him reach his target by donating at his page here.

Alexander’s mother, Isabella, said “We are proud of him because: We are trying to instill what charity means and how important it is for us as a family to be able to help those around us that are less fortunate during this time. It’s very difficult at the moment for the NHS and all the work they are doing, he is thinking of the staff and all the time they are spending away from their own families and putting their loved ones and themselves at risk at the same time. We are proud of Alexander because he understands this and wants to be able to make a difference by turning his love for cycling into a fundraiser for the community.

When we asked Alexander why he decided to fundraise he said “The doctors and nurses helped me so much when I hurt my head and arm and now I want to help them.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Alexander for his amazing support and encourage you all to join him in getting involved in your own challenge to raise funds for St George’s Hospital Charity.
