"I cannot thank these people enough for what they have done for us and how it has felt to really be appreciated by our community.”

8th June 2020

Last week saw the final delivery of free hot meals to staff at St George’s Hospital. As we move into the ‘new normal’, St George’s Hospital Charity continues to support not only staff but also patients and their families with snacks, drinks, toiletries and activities and we hope to continue this long into the future.

However, as we round up one part of our donations, we were delighted to hear from Tina Martin, Bowel Cancer Screening Administrator, who reached out to let both the Charity and Catering team know just how much of a difference the donations have made over the last 12 weeks.

We wanted to share her words with all those who have supported us by donating time, money or products to support our staff at St George’s and Queen Mary’s Hospitals.

“Would you mind very much passing over my thanks to all of those companies, individuals who have been so kind and thoughtful by donating so much food etc to us here as St Georges Hospital.

I know that there has been a lot of news in the media about people helping out the NHS Staff with a variety of donations they have made, but I don’t know if they really know what it has meant to me and all my colleagues to know that what we all do within the NHS is really appreciated and that we are not a forgotten service provider.

There have been times when I have come into work, in the last 10 weeks, because I have been 1 of only 2 admin supports for our nurses, who have had the need to talk to me because they don’t have anyone at home and they need to get out how they are feeling, lost and lonely. I am always happy to help them out but sometimes it gets hard to always have a smile on your face and carry on with a day’s work.

Their wonderful donations have helped us out so much, that I need to put pen to paper (as the saying goes) because one day I came into work only to realise that I left my lunch bag at home as well as my bank cards.  I did not know what I was going to do for my lunch but when I went into our staff room to make a coffee, you could not believe my surprise when there on the table we had a box full of sandwiches, fruit, drinks, crisps etc.  I cannot thank these people enough for what they have done for us and how it has felt to really be appreciated by our community.”

We couldn’t agree more with Tina- a huge thank you goes to every single member of our local and wider community that came out to support our staff in whatever way possible. We thank you.
