Mildred’s 5k challenge for George’s!

25th September 2020

One year after recovering from a brain tumour, Mildred Talabi is taking on an incredible 5k challenge to say thank you to Georges.

On 2 September 2019, Mildred collapsed outside work and was rushed to hospital by ambulance and what she thought would be a quick in and out job became months of recovery.

Mildred was diagnosed with a brain tumour and went through a six-hour surgery to have the tumour removed. Subsequently, she spent three days in intensive care, one month in hospital and two more months recovering before she was able to walk again.

Amazingly, Mildred is now almost fully recovered and wanted to take on a challenge to mark her one-year anniversary of being brain tumour-free and thank the neurology team at St George’s Hospital. As her original plan of taking part in the Tough Mudder this September could not go ahead, Mildred had to quickly think of another way to mark this occasion. She therefore decided that her challenge would be to attempt to do a sole post-surgery 5K run in less than 30mins this Saturday 26 September.

Mildred said: ‘Today I am 95% fully recovered, I regularly do runs, my business is thriving, my fourth book is out soon and I’m healthier and happier than I’ve ever been. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for my faith…the support of my incredible husband, family & friends, and the brilliant doctors, nurses and catering team at St George’s Hospital that took such good care of me.’

Mildred has smashed her target but really wants to achieve her goal by doubling it. To give, visit her JustGiving page here.
