Christmas Fundraising from the 13 Company Greater London South West Sector Army Cadet Force

22nd December 2020

This year cadets and staff from 13 Company, Greater London South West Sector Army Cadet Force, undertook an initiative to support their two local paediatric departments, whose patients will be spending time in hospital over the Christmas period. One of which was our very own at St George’s Hospital.  The aims were to provide a welcome distraction to patients spending time in hospital as well as providing a little festive cheer to staff who have done so much for patients during the pandemic.

The cadets originally set out to collect donations of gifts to take to the hospital, however with the onset of the second lockdown in November, the cadets had to adapt, turning their initiative into an very successful fundraiser. In total, they raised a fantastic £1,000 to be shared between the two hospitals! The donations all came from cadets, parents, friends, family, work colleagues, our followers on social media, our staff and the wider military community.

Sabrina Gibbins, Radiology Admin Manager who is also the Sector Regimental Sgt Major, shared with us: "Because of the effort and generosity of everyone who helped us to purchase even more gifts that expected, we ended up with well over 100 presents to be donated between the two hospitals.”

The 13 Company’s fundraising efforts have been amazing, of the total, £600 of the monies raised was used to purchase gifts for the children being treated here at St George’s Hospital through the charity's virtual shop - Gifts For George’s.

Shannon Gleave, Community and Events Officer for the charity said:  “A huge thank you to the cadets and staff from 13 Company, Greater London South West Sector Army Cadet Force, their initiative and fundraising will brighten so many patients' Christmas Day’s this year! Your support means so much and we cannot thank you enough for everything that you have done!”

There is still time to help provide a welcome distraction to a patient in hospital this Christmas. Give a Gift to Georges and bring some joy to our patients this Christmas.
