Pinckney Wards Gets a Refurbished Room for Parents
22 March 2023
When a child is in the hospital, parents often find it challenging to be in public and require a designated room where they can rest and recover both physically and mentally.
The Pinckney Parents Room was created to provide families with a psychological break from the prolonged and traumatic experience of having a sick child in the hospital.
The new room, which was recently refurbished, offers parents and caregivers a space to process their challenges and facilitates peer support to foster a sense of community. The room is accessible to parents and caregivers at all times, allowing them to benefit from the private space.
Additionally, it can function as a multi-purpose room, providing a confidential space for meetings with external agencies, such as the Police, social services, and CAMHS, when no other room is available.
The Pinckney Ward provides care to approximately 30 families each day, with medical, surgical, and high-dependency oncology teams.
