Portraits to a Life of Dedication: The NHS Heroes Behind the Photos

In December Charity CEO Amerjit Chohan and St George’s Trust Chair Gillian Norton opened the new ‘Portraits to a Life of Dedication' exhibition, on the ground floor of the Lanesborough Wing, following the positive reaction and success of the outdoor exhibition.
The exibition is a collaboration between Arts St Georges and the Trust.

I'm proud to say that I started my nursing career as a student nurse at St George’s Hospital, School of Nursing in 1987, and have worked here ever since!
There have been huge challenges for all staff who have been affected by the pandemic, both personally and professionally.
As there is no sign of Covid disappearing after two years, the pandemic is now also testing everyone’s resilience.
I continue to be impressed by colleagues’ ability to change and adapt to the ask, often at pace, often while having to manage challenge in their home lives too.
To relax, I enjoy gardening and growing from seed, particularly vegetables.

“During the height of the pandemic I was part of the nursing team who trained volunteers and up-skilled existing staff who were to be deployed to work within surge areas.
“I was now the relative of the patient with Covid, and on the 24th of April my father, a doctor by profession, passed away. I was fortunate to be with him in his final hours.
“In the midst of the pain, disruption and anxiety that most people felt, there was a sense of camaraderie, kindness and compassion. A lot of the staff made huge sacrifices to support the NHS, but we are also members of the public, with families and friends too."
