Rowing For Rehab
10 October 2025
On 6 September, Philippa and her team took on the incredible challenge of the Monster of the Loch rowing event. This event covers an incredible 34km across the iconic Loch Ness and pushes crews to their physical and mental limits.
Against tough competition and challenging conditions, The Bosham Belles powered through and proudly finished 49th out of 118 boats, crossing the line in an impressive 3 hours, 23 mins and 19 seconds. Their success was the result of dedicated training and expert coaching by three-time world lightweight sculling champion who represented both Great Britain and England, Peter Haining.
For Philippa and her team, the challenge was far more than just rowing. Their efforts were driven by a shared commitment to raising funds and awareness for life-changing rehabilitation services. Philippa raised a phenomenal £7,335 in support of St George’s Hospital Charity for The Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital which helps people living with disabilities lead fulfilling lives.

This cause is deeply personal to Philippa. In 2015, her husband, Rory was diagnosed with a rare but persistent bone tumour in his foot. After five major surgeries, the difficult decision was made to proceed with a below-the-knee amputation. Rory was then admitted to specialist residential rehabilitation at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton – a world-renowned centre for amputee rehabilitation to support patients with complex needs following life-changing surgeries.
Philippa described that in their time at Queen Mary’s, the compassion, expertise and unwavering dedication of the staff and fellow patients was a crucial source of strength and hope throughout their journey.
Stories like Rory’s and Philippa’s highlight the critical importance of rehabilitation services and the transformative difference they make. The Bosham Belles’ journey across Loch Ness was a testament not only to endurance and teamwork but also to the power of community and shared purpose. With each stroke of the oars, they rowed not just for themselves, but for everyone whose lives are touched by rehabilitation services.
Thank you Philippa, Rory and The Bosham Belles for your dedication to supporting St George's Hospital Charity.
