As part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project, ‘Our Hospital: conserving, curating and responding to St George’s Art and Heritage Collection’, we are delighted to announce the appointment of the newest member of our Artist Team: Zafeerah Heesambee.

St George’s Hospital Charity are excited to share the appointment of our new Creative Heritage Resident Artist, Zafeerah Heesambee, who will pick up the baton from our previous Creative Heritage Resident Artists, Ruan Murphy and Keith Jarrett.

This will be the the final artist residency of our 'Our Hospital' project, during which Zafeerah, who is an interdisciplinary artist and producer, will facilitate creative workshops, encouraging and enabling participants across the hospital and local community to engage with our Art and Heritage Collection.

Zafeerah's work will include a collaborative project with staff in our Trust Women's Network, as well as a partnership project with the Wandsworth Carers Centre. Together, the groups will create artistic responses prompted by the pieces on display at our hospital and illustrating their own stories of the healthcare setting and its heritage.

Grace Lindley, Arts Engagement Manager at St George’s Hospital Charity, said: “We feel really privileged to be working with Zafeerah, who already has some brilliant ideas of how to work with our community to engage them with our Art & Heritage Collection. We can't wait to see participants collaborate with her to create really special work!"

Speaking of her involvement in the initiative, Zafeerah said: "I'm excited to join St George's Hospital Charity as the Creative Heritage Resident Artist. This programme brings together my love of community, research, and heritage. I'm looking forward to unearthing stories from the collection through participatory engagement and, together with the communities, mapping our own blueprints in response."
