Creative activities have been popping up on the St George’s site over the past 3 weeks!

Working to bring uplifting, entertaining and creative distraction for patients waiting for appointments in our outpatient areas, our Arts Team have programmed a different arts activity every Wednesday for 6 weeks, titled the ‘St George’s Summer Series’.

Now half- way through the season, our patients have already enjoyed dance by South Asian Dance Group Akademi outside Grosvenor Wing and repertoire by talented harpist Catrin Meek in the Rose Centre, both back by popular demand after the enthusiasm for both art forms during our St George’s Arts Week.

“A big Thank You to Catrin Meek for her brilliant, expressive performance today on the harp at the Rose Centre” Jeanne, Outpatient

In the coming weeks younger patients will be invited to get creative through Collage Club workshops with visual artist Steph Hartman in the Dragon Centre and those taking some time out in the Lambert Water Garden will be serenaded by Opera Holland Park.

“The Artists (and performance areas) have all been carefully and sensitively chosen and have met with lots of very positive feedback. It’s so exciting to be able to do things like this and make the patient and staff experience so much more enjoyable.” Leanne Sadler, General Manager, Outpatients, General Paediatrics

Whilst the end is in sight for the Summer Series, Arts St George’s have lots more in store for the coming weeks and months. Feedback form patients on this varied pilot series will inform future programming, reflecting the needs tastes of our hospital community.

Arts St George’s is the arts programme for St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is part of St George’s Hospital Charity.
