As part of Volunteers Week 2020 we have been catching up with some of our volunteers about why they got involved. We hope you will join us in taking the time to say a big thank you to all those who have offered up their time to support St George’s Hospital Charity, we are so grateful to each and every one of you.

Today, we meet Nicky Simpson who has been volunteering for around 6 months.

Nicky is one of our Fundraising Office Volunteers and comes in once a week to support our Fundraising Team. She does a range of different tasks including helping thank our donors, helping distribute posters, pens and other goodies to ward staff, supporting on stalls and bake sales and so much more.

We asked Nicky why do you volunteer?

“I’m retired and have time on my hands, I have always wanted to help out at a charity, give back to the community, help others, I love the company of others and at St George’s I get to meet new people all the time, it’s actually very rewarding and fun!!”

And why did you choose to support St George’s Hospital Charity in particular?

“Because I have a connection with St George’s Hospital and wanted to do more for charity. I really enjoy coming in and the team at St George’s Hospital Charity are amazing!”

What is your favourite part of volunteering?

“I love being on the stalls, when patients and family pass by, some just for a chat, they tell you the most incredible stories which are wonderful to hear.”

And finally, what is the most rewarding part of volunteering for you?

“Being part of a great team at St George’s, meeting new people and the most pleasure comes from when you know you are making a difference, even if it’s only in a small way.”
