Volunteers Week Spotlight: Jan Rose
05 June 2023
As with most people who volunteer, the desire to give back is often rooted in a deep appreciation for the kindness and care that they have received from others when they needed it the most. This is something that Jan says she can personally relate to.
Once the height of the pandemic passed and events were back up and running, Jan was able to join us, reflecting on her time volunteering with the Charity she said: "It has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, and I have loved every minute of my time supporting St George’s Hospital Charity so far.
"I particularly enjoy the bucket collections, which are held in various locations across the city, including Tooting.
"volunteering has become an essential part of my life."
"It is inspiring to see how much people care about the hospital and how generous they are, even during these challenging times.
"One of the things that I love about volunteering is the diversity of events that take place. From abseiling down buildings to cheering on runners in marathons, there is always something exciting happening.
"One of the most memorable experiences was a bucket collection that we did at The Holy Trinity Church in Sloane Street, where a fantastic choir performed for a large audience. It was a great way to start the Christmas holidays and left me feeling incredibly inspired. In contrast, I also had the pleasure of working with a local school choir at Tooting Bec station.
"We surprised commuters with their angelic voices, it was a huge success and felt very special."
Jan also volunteers in other areas of the hospital, including supporting the St George’s Macmillan team. She said: "It is incredible to see the hard work and dedication that goes into caring for patients, and I feel grateful to be a part of this process.
"The reward of knowing that I am making a positive impact on someone's life is something that I cannot put a price on.
"For me, volunteering has become an essential part of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to society in a meaningful way."
