Wimbledon Foundation donates £100,000 to St George’s Hospital Charity for its £5m children’s appeal, Time for a Change.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve received a generous donation of £100,000 from the Wimbledon Foundation, the official charity of The All-England Lawn Tennis Club and The Championships, towards our Time for a Change £5m children's appeal. This significant contribution brings the appeal total to £2.25m and comes as we mark the start of our second year of fundraising.

St George’s Hospital is home to one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK, and its paediatric services have been rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We’re raising funds to transform the children's wards and expand the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). OurTime for Change children’s appeal is raising £5m so that the children’s facilities can be transformed to match the hospital’s outstanding, world-class care.

Paige Murphy, Head of Wimbledon Foundation said: “The Wimbledon Foundation is proud to support St George’s Hospital Charity with a donation to the incredibly important Time for a Change children’s appeal. By supporting St George’s to expand their Paediatric intensive care unit, transform the wards into bright and welcoming spaces and create better facilities for staff, we hope to help their younger patients and families receive the best care possible.”

“St George’s is not just a hospital. It is at the heart of the local community, serving patients from across South London and the Southeast of England.”

Amerjit Chohan, our Chief Executive, expressed his gratitude to the Wimbledon Foundation for its support, stating: “We are delighted and grateful to the Wimbledon Foundation for making such a substantial donation towards our Time for a Change £5m fundraising appeal. St George’s is not just a hospital. It is at the heart of the local community, serving patients from across South London and the Southeast of England. St George’s Hospital Charity is here to support our amazing hospital staff and the brilliant work that they do. We now want to ensure that our younger patients have the best environment to make the best possible recovery.”

We also held our annual flagship fundraising event on Saturday 13 May at Cherry Red Records Stadium, home of AFC Wimbledon, raising almost £300,000 towards the appeal.

Amerjit added: “The ambitious plans that we are supporting include a dedicated ventilation unit on our children’s ward for our patients who need long-term ventilation. We need more beds to accommodate an ever-increasing demand for our outstanding, world-class care and support. We’re proud to have staff that are some of the most talented and dedicated people in the country. Your funds will help to make their workplaces somewhere they can be proud of.

“We got off to a great start thanks to our wonderful supporters, donors and the efforts of our staff across the Trust. The support we’ve had so far is inspiring – especially in such challenging times. If you haven’t had a chance to get support the appeal, there’s still time to do so. We also need more companies, business organisations and the local community to support our efforts to help us reach the £5m target for the Time for a Change children’s appeal. You can donate or become a Time for a Change Champion or sign up for a fundraising event.”
