St George’s Hospitals Staff Choir meets weekly, led by Singer/ Songwriter and experienced Choir Leader, Genevieve Dawson. The group come together to learn new and familiar music, often requested by the group and have even written several of their own songs!
The initiative gives staff at St George’s Hospitals the opportunity to socialise with colleagues, improve wellbeing and take time for themselves aside from their busy work environments.
The Choir have been involved in several exciting projects in recent years. In 2023, they wrote and performed their song ‘Who Cares For The Carers’ as part of the 'Our National Health Stories', (a national project celebrating 75 years of the NHS) finale at Aviva Studios in Manchester. This song was written through months of collaborative songwriting by the St George’s Hospitals Staff Choir and aims to explore what it means to be a part of the institution at this important milestone. The song also highlights the challenges which the institution is facing and the impact which it has had over the years. Significantly, the lyrics include a call for action, inviting the audience, or listener to ‘fight’ to support the service into the future. You can watch a video recording of the song below.
In Summer 2024, they wrote another song ‘Song of Hope’, which they performed at the St George’s Covid Commemoration Pavillion, ‘Pause’ at the end of the annual St George’s Arts Week.
