Arts St George's (St George's Hospital Charity's Arts Team) are delighted to present this exhibition of artworks from our Art and Heritage Collection co-curated with members of St George’s Hospital Trust’s LGBTQ+ Network. The display forms part of ‘Our Hospital: conserving, curating and responding to St George’s Art and Heritage Collection’, our heritage project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Members of the Trust’s LGBTQ+ Network worked closely with our Creative Heritage Resident Artist, Ruan Murphy, discussing artworks in our Art and Heritage Collection and considering how the exhibition could represent the LGBTQ+ community. The curators selected artworks exploring themes of family, love, layers, gender, fluidity, conflict and duality and have written new interpretation to give their personal perspective on the artworks they selected together.
The display includes new artworks created by LGBTQ+ Network members in response to the project, featuring glasses they made to help view the artworks in a new light to discover hidden LGBTQ+ themes, and well as block prints created by Trust staff and worn at the Pride 2024 parade in London.
