Kate Beaumont

In April 2012, Kate lost her daughter Tilly Grace to a condition called Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy, having spent three weeks in St George’s PICU. As a thank you to the staff on the unit for their care, compassion and professionalism, Kate decided to raise money for the unit in particular by running the London Marathon, which she completed in 2014 on a lovely sunny day, in a really amazing time of just over four hours!

Having had to defer her place from 2013, due to injury, Sunday 13th April 2014 was a very special day and one that Kate had been working towards for the past two years.

Kate had this to say about her marathon experience: “It was an emotional day for me, but what an incredible experience. As I approached Tower Bridge I was overwhelmed with the occasion and a sense of ‘I’m actually running the London Marathon’. Running yesterday, you realise that so many people have their own story and their own reasons for running, the challenge isn’t just physical, so many people have travelled huge journeys to complete 26.2 miles. For me, running has also really helped to find some perspective and to find a positive way forward in adversity. Being able to do something positive has without a doubt being fundamental to my grieving process and helped me move forward.”

Since 2012 Kate and her amazing support network of friends and family have raised around £8,000 for St George’s PICU, which is incredible! What’s more, having been inspired by the staff and her family’s experience at St George’s Hospital, Kate is currently studying to be a midwife, where she will be able to use her experience and understanding to make a real difference to other mothers.

St George’s Hospital Charity is very proud to have Kate on our team, and we cannot thank her enough for her support and hard work!
