Fundraiser, Nathan Veglio's story about why he's raising funds for the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) at St George's.

In February 2023, Nathan’s family faced a sudden medical crisis when their father suffered a severe heart attack. As they navigated the uncertain path of emergency surgery and intensive care, they realised the urgent need for better medical equipment to save lives. Inspired by their experience, the family embarked on a fundraising mission and to support their cause, they are taking on a series of exciting athletic challenges.

Following the heart attack, Nathan and his family found themselves in a hospital waiting room, filled with anxiety and hope. The medical team informed them that emergency open heart surgery was necessary for their father's survival. With the odds against him, they learned that an ECMO machine could have provided essential stabilisation before surgery. Determined to prevent others from facing similar challenges, the family decided to raise funds for the CTICU at St George’s Hospital to give back and help other families in the same position.

Nathan, his friends, and family have started taking on various events to raise these funds, including the Royal Parks Half Marathon, London Marathon, a Marathon around St George’s Hospital and more. They have already raised a huge £3,697 but have more events coming up and would love your support!

A massive thank you to Nathan for taking on these huge challenges and good luck for everything he has to come.
